Medicare Prescription Drug BenefitAugust 29th, 2005
Seniors across the nation, including an estimated 65,000 South Dakotans have been receiving information by mail from the Social Security Administration regarding the new Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) is sending out applications to those who may be eligible for extra help in paying prescription drugs under the new Medicare Prescription Drug Program. As people begin to complete and return these applications, employees of the Social Security Administration may contact them by telephone if their applications are incomplete, or if SSA has questions about any of the information provided on the application. The Medicare Assistance Program of South Dakota reminds everyone that, if an employee of the Social Security Administration should call, he/she will NOT ask you to provide your Social Security number, Medicare number, date of birth, mother’s maiden name or other identifiers. Social Security Administration employees who need to know this information already have it. Do Not give out any personal or confidential information.
If someone contacts you and asks for your personal information – hang up! Contact the Medicare Assistance Program (MAP) in South Dakota by calling 1-800-822-8804 to report your concern.
