Feds settle South Dakota Medicare scam for $345,000
October 3rd, 2006

Sioux Falls, S.D. A South Dakota health clinic and its Michigan artificial joint supplier have agreed to repay 345-thousand dollars to Medicare.

The case involves Siouxland Surgical Center of Dakota Dunes and its primary owner, a group of physicians affiliated as the Center for Neurosciences, Orthopedics and Spine. The federal lawsuit was filed on behalf of Doctor Spencer Greendyke, who worked at the clinic and served on its board.

According to the complaint, from 2000 through 2003 the clinic accepted payments from Stryker Corporation of Portage, Michigan, as an incentive for usings its orthopedic products. Because Greendyke came forward, he could receive up to 25 percent of all damanges--though the amount is not included in any court document.
